| | There are no jobs !!!!!!! Coming down M1 late Friday I stopped at a services to pick up a drink and spoke briefly to one of the coffee shop employees who was Polish.
After chatting for a few minutes she told me she had arrived 2 weeks before and had number of different opportunites for a job before taking this one.
So much for a recession and no jobs available................the on your bike action that the Govt advocates may not be such a bad idea. | | Connect With Facebook to

| | Oliver,
Although now retired through health reasons, the couple of times I found myself out of work I sat down with the Yellow Pages, started at the front and didn't stop until I had found myself a new job. I have always believed that anyone who wants a job can find one. It might not be what you want, but it will help pay the bills until something better comes along. Sadly, for many people in this country today the work ethic is being bred out of them and they are allowed to choose the benefit system as a lifestyle choice rather than a nessesity. On your bike is right - as this young Polish lady proves. Unfortunately many of this country's workshy couldn't ride a bike, because they're not fit enough.
Best regards John

| | I was processing a rent to buy application tonight.
I have 2 to look at for the same house. 1 guy brings home £1800 a month. A great wage for my neck of the woods.
The other is on DSS - They have 5 kids. Between tax credits, housing benefit, child benefit, council tax benefit I reckon they have a salary after tax equivalent to £35k per annum.
So why work?
The DSS tenant is perversely a better bet as their income is guaranteed by the government!
Migrant workers are young, keen and motivated - so ignore the Daily Mail headlines.

Best regards John | I agree with you commnet! If you want to work you will find one,may be not your dream one ,but it will be good enough to pay your bills and if you really persistatnt you will find the better one in future..
I came 8 years ago with £500 to this country(that time it was easier to find job),with no qualification,no papers and minumum english..It was difficult for first year, but if you really want ,if you have pride in yourself you will grow and will make your way up..
I know there is a lots of talk about that eastern europeans bring the prices down and so on...But the truth is that many britains they just dont want to do any job, they prefer sit at home watch TV and drink beer(yes I know that,I work for housing assosiation).Live on benefits.
Blame the goverment, people just use the system!!!!
I`m still working full time but looking forward to my property investment!!
And I know that I will be there where I want to be!!

| | The problem, with this county is that we're to soft.
That is why people travel half way across the world to get in via the back door because once your in, your in.
If you coming here to work and make a better life for yourself and your family I will welcome you with open arms. If your coming here to cheat the system then please stay at home.
I have three kids and work full time as I have to pay for everything, but if I was to stop working and sit at home with my wife I wouldn't have to pay for anything as the government would pick up the tab, so I often ask myself why work? Well the way Iwas bought up is this. If you can't afford it don't buy it or work harder so that you can afford it.

| | Over the last 20 to 30 years we have bread a generation of people who want top money for minimal work. The ones who know how to work the system are the ones that benefit. I have worked all my life and have tried to instill the same into my children, I employ a few people but again their get up and go has got up and left.

| | Hi guys,
We have seven employees overseas (I've just had our annual day out with five of them since I'm on holiday). We have tried four times to hire UK people in the UK and every time it's failed miserably. We gave up 2 years ago when the latest decided to sod off to Australia and took about 200 pieces of our paperwork with her. She did mail most of it back via seafreight, but we still had to get many, many duplicate bank statements.
Bottom line - it's really hard for small businesses to find reliable employees in the UK. I'd rather work 80 hours a week and do 2 jobs in our business than pay somebody else (and about 50% more for cost of employment) to do 10 hrs of my work in 40 hrs a week. We'll never be really rich, but at least we will only blame ourselves for that, and not employees.

| Well said Gerry. Someone I know runs a small company. One of her employees has been off sick for months. She claims that it is stress related. However this young mum's constantly updated Facebook profile suggests a different story.
Needless to say, this business owner has to foot the sick pay and perks, can't lawfully sack and can't afford to take on someone else while also paying the sick pay. What business are they in? Employment Law! They are at the verge of replacing her at last... but it has taken months and doctor's recommendation!
Perils of bureaucracy... I hear it is even worse in France!
Regards
Pankaj

| | Fair play to the girl Oliver met - the opportunities are there for those that look for them. There are far too many 'professional benefit claimants' out there.
When I moved from Stourbridge to Rugeley to get married aged 19 I walked every trading estate in the area and knocked on all the doors and asked what they did and then asked for a job suggesting how I could help in their business. I can't remember how many application forms I filled in but I got a call back within a few weeks and got offered a job making cheap home snooker tables.
8 till 8 Mon - Fri & 8 till 4 on Sat £2.20 an hour no overtime - probably would have been easier to sign but that's not me - mind you, I wish I'd started buying property back then instead. Live & learn
Ben

| | Here's another lad who deserves a mention (see attachment taken from daily paper). He proves what we've all said, there is work out there if you want it badly enough.
Best regards John
