Hello

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of owning / renting / selling maisonettes above commercial property.

I am looking at some that from my DD appear to present excellent yields. However I know they are difficult to finance when above commercial premises.

I also wondered what exit strategy people might have considered, I think that only another investor would buy such a property as a FTB would in my opinion go for a standard flat or small house over a maisonette.

Any thoughts from people with experience of Maisonettes would be really appreciated.

Hi Charlotte,
These are a bit of a nightmare to finance and consequently when selling on your buyer is going to find it difficult as well.

As well as the type of commercial underneath they also look at either side of the commercial premises and take into consideration what those businesses do. Generally anything near a fast food/pub outlet you wouldnt get finance.
