| | Thanks I tried to upload a picture
of my brother Albert but it didn't work,
maybe another time.
Thanks Heidi, Matthew and Jacob for your warm welcome, and as you appear to appreciate my image I thought you would like to meet my sibling.
Heidi, I said to my wife 'do you remember the lady and her family bungalow in Norfolk?' To which she immediately replied 'Oh yes she was the one who had a disagreement with La Beeny about the bedroom with patio doors'.
Your fame is assured !
In fact I think your show is one of many that we videoed for reference ready for when we started in the business.
Cheers
Jon

| | Yes Jon, that was me,single minded to the last! Thanks for calling me a 'lady' don't get called that very often!
Even the experts get it wrong sometimes the woman who bought the bungalow, did so because she loved the idea of patio doors in bedroom leading to a nice big big patio, where she could sit in the summer and sip an early morning coffee!

| | Your picture - THAT'S what I'm talking about!
Jon - some people round these parts have been getting a tad hot under the collar about people not posting 'proper' pictures of themselves. Mine started as an over-loaded truck (the way I was feeling at the time!), then moved to a cowboy leading a very large cockeral across a yard, and now you see my Little Boy Sam.
I still resist putting up a 'proper' one - in fact, the harder I'm pushed, the more I tend to resist
So I love your beautiful albino orangatang (sp?) or whatever he is. Keep the faith!
Oh, and welcome on board! | |

Just got my

Thanks Robert.
Your welcome is most greatefully received, thank you.
As for the picture, yes you are absolutely right. There appear to a few colonel blimps around here who think this is a small private members club like their Lodge or the Rotary. Places where members are personally vetted and introduced by a trusted existing member.
Why don't they realise that there is already a confidential email facility at the top of the page to protect them a little? But they don't really know who is watching them.
I complained to Deep that it is more normal to have an anonymous 'screen' name, but he does not want to do it that way. Which is a geat shame considering the security implications of everyday life now.
I think some members may be new to using technology since taking early retirement and they don't realise that there can be some with malicious intent who become members just to acquire information on people. Many here are landlords and I am sure some have a few disaffected tenants for whatever reason. How easy it would be for tenants to find out more personal/business information, especially the way some seem to write too much confidential information in their postings. In the past 3 months I have heard two news stories of such tenants demolishing landlord's own homes, in one case using the landlord's JCB parked in his yard next door.
There can also be one's local tax inspector (old Vlad the impaler is one but I am sure his a nice fellow) who might have suspicions about one's declared property portfolio; there could be VAT inspectors watching; there could be neighbours who want to object to a member running a business from home and need evidence; there can be lowlifes who want to get an idea of perceived wealth of their potential victims.
But there are idiots here who complain they can't see the 'whites of my eyes', want to see my email address, want to see my phone number. I bet they are also the types who shred any piece of paper as a precaution against ID theft.
Where am I coming from?
I have had extensive United Nations security training - they know a thing or two about this topic.
I have had bank fraud - a computer centre operator in Luxemburg sold my bank details.
My sister (in Bristol) has had ID theft, only finding out when a major high street chain phoned her to see that her large order of electronic goods had been safely delivered to her home in ESSEX !
My wife was the subject of an aggravated burglary one day inside our own home when someone broke in when she was upstairs. They knew I was away from home for two days)
And finally, of course I have been a 'rich foreigner' living in a post conflict zone, experience enough.
People should take more care of their ID, contact details, personal information and business activity. But those writing and complaining will think me radical I am sure.
Sorry but its just my third world experience showing through.
Your hat is great, keep your ID confidential by all means.
Cheers
Jon

| | Wow!
Now I offer you an even bigger welcome - with you around, I'm suddenly going to seem pretty conventional in my outlook!
Seriously, though, I might have a chat to you about some of this stuff at some point. I've always had a thing about privacy, and it's only in recent years that media stories have started to prove some of my concerns correct. However, there's always more to learn in terms of ID protection and so on.
Just for interest, check this out - http://www.urban75.com/Action/news115.html It's an article I wrote way back in 2000 (under a pseudonym, of course!) about the whole privacy issue. It could do with an update, but it's still pretty good, IMHO.
Cheers! | |

| | Oh my goodness, what a pair you are! Do you really go through life with that suspicious nature looking around every street corner, worrying about the tax man and 'big brother'! You MUST be hiding something guys! Bring it on, I say, and as a matter of point, it's people like yourselves that help the 'criminals' to get away with stuff because you refuse to be open and co-opertate in the first place. I bet your against identity cards as well! I recon we should all be chipped and bar coded, it would sort out the baddies from the goodies in no time! You know, if it's gonna happen; it's gonna happen!
(ha ha, is that the veins I see standing out in your neck, BIG SISTER IS WATCHING YOUHOO)........................................
Look out.... JCB behind you!
